"There has been considerable confusion over the years about the exact history of the relationship between the Spector NS style bass and the Streamer bass of Warwick. The NS curved style bass was designed for Spector in Brooklyn by Ned Steinberger in 1977. Upon attending the Frankfurt Musik Messe in 1985 we found that Hans Peter Wilfer, owner of Warwick, was making an exact copy of the NS bass. I hand wrote a licensing agreement to address this issue which was signed and witnessed by various people at the show, ie myself, Hans Peter Wilfer, Ned Steinberger, Hap Kuffner, and Alan Charney. It stipulated that Wilfer acknowledged that we had originated the curved body design and that he was only to produce it under this license and submit payments for it. We only received two payments from him in the next year totaling less than $900. After this he sent us a letter saying that he had changed the design and no longer needed to abide by the agreement. He had made a change to the peghead and one small change to the surface of the upper horn, no change was made to the recognizable perimeter of the bass which is still the issue of confusion in the marketplace to this day. There are significant differences in copyright law between Germany and the USA and the window of opportunity for legal action has long since passed. I just want to make clear that we are the originals and Warwick are the imitators."
Da ging es also um die Wölbung und die Kopfplatte.
Bei Ibanez bzw. der Androhung eines Lawsuits gegen den US-Vertrieb durch Gibson ging es um die Open-Book Kopfplatte.
