If you mean the V4B, mine didn't like my JBL 15's at all. Virtually every other amp I've used those cab's with has been great. The V4B sounded like crap through them. A case in which the whole is less than the sum of the parts. The V4 can be a nice sounding amp and it has HUGE bottom. It's picky about it's cab though. I have heard a V4B paired with the old 'half-fridge' sealed 4x10 that Ampeg used to make. Basically one half of an SVT coffin style cab. That with a P Bass was definately happening! So I know the amp can deliver.
I am of the opinion, with no science to back it up of course that Ampeg bass amps, at least the 60's and 70's V4's and SVT's are voiced for Ampeg cabinets. I gigged with an SVT for quite a while and it was a really great amp on top of the 8x10. Mine needed service once and the shop (LaSalle Music in West Hartford, CT) gave me a loaner which was incredibly nice of them.
So I went through a couple of loaners. One was a Sunn Colliseum which was horrible sounding through every cab I tried. The one that stuck was an Acoustic. Maybe a 450 ? A couple of hunndred SS watts, tone controls and a graphic. Paired with the SVT bin it was incredible. So when I got the SVT back, I started trying other cabinets with it. It sounded like crap with everything except the SVT bin. That was a good pairing though.
