Need experts/advice on a 1978 Fender fretless Bass neck:
I bought a lovely 1978 lefty Fender Jazz Bass with block inlays and white binding. The frets are completely grinded. The pre owner told me that he ordered this bass from Fender in 1978 as a custom order as fretless with grinded frets and binding.
There is no single damage on the binding so I first believed he could be right.
But it’s definitely a fretted neck where intonation is directly on the grinded frets and side dots are useless.
So my question is, if anybody out there ever heard of 70s Fender custom orders where the frets where just grinded from factory and delivered like that as custom order.
Or if this bass was later on reworked and grinded, no idea then how they did it without damaging the binding.
Thanks for your help
