ich hab mal was zu dem odb 3 geschrieben, aber auf englisch...
Mclusky - Do Dallas was released in 2001 i think and i loved it. Every instrument on it sounded like it was used to that noone wants to hear it because they are ugly, just everything is loud an desperate. So is the bass, just raw. the photo on the back showed the lower part of a p bass and a pedal, which back than i identified as a Boss odb 3, so i bought it.
The odb 3 ist not intuitive, to a young player it is like knob-rodeo and easily threw me of while i used it and so i tossed it a few times in the corner. It came to real use when i was playing with the grunge band of my cousin. I had a jazz bass, a decent 300 watts solid state amp and i used the odb 3 as an overdrive. Yes this is possible, you need a rather low-output bass and very specific settings on the odb. level all the way up (basically its output level, i had it that way), high eq total cut, any other way it sounds to harsh, bass eq slightly rolled in, blend control OD all the way and finally gain on minimum. Its a setting from the usermanual, i think its great and alone justifies this pedal.
Some years went by, so did the Basses and i finally came along a Precision-Bass (as every Bassist does somehow) And in some sort of way i stuck with them. I am a huge fan of Ibanez Blazer Basses, Precisioncopys with an own Neckshape and slightly hotter Pickups. As much as i liked the sound of my new bass, my little boss pedal wasn’t able to cope with thier amount of output so i had to swap the distortion. The only one which was able create a sound that i really liked was the ebs multi-drive. Alone between bass and amp i got nice creamy overdrive sounds. To me It is one of the few really good Sounding distortion pedals which can be used very intuitive. My new Band demanded a even more aggressive sound, so i used the odb as an overdriven preamp and the ebs mellowed the whole thing to an audience friendly amount down (a soundtech once said my sound seemed compressed because of the abs).
...aber um ganz ehrlich zu sein, ich hab keine Ahnung ob der Sound von Mclusky was mit dem kdb 3 zu tun hat...
