I am selling a rare Japanese Yamaha SB800s bass from 1980.
This is the highest of the bolt-on SuperBasses (only the SB1200 with the NTB was higher). The 800 differs from the lower models primarily in wood - here we have a maple/nato/maple sandwich, which gives a slightly harder sound with a stronger attack. And it must be admitted that even in the basic version these were axes with a large bang; it is not without reason that they are called "jazz bass killers". However, what is particularly impressive is the evenness of this sound - the SB800 sounds equally good on every string and in every position.
Passive system, vol/vol/tone control.
The second distinguishing feature is the quality of workmanship and hardware. The guitar is perfectly fitted, and the powerful bridge and heavy tuners still work and look great today.
I rate the condition as very good minus - there are minor abrasions on the body, the neck has small dents, but the whole thing looks great for 45 years. The truss rod works without problems and turns easily, the frets have some mileage behind them, but they do not currently require polishing (they will not lack height if necessary). Low, comfortable string action: 1.8 mm above the 12th fret.
This is one of the best, most noble-sounding basses from my collection. Unfortunately, I prefer a different type of necks - here we have a Precision-style bass, quite thick and wide (43.5 mm at the nut). Weight 4.4 kg.
To be played in Poznań (Poland), shipping is not a problem. Hardcase included in the price.
Private sale therefore I offer no warranty, return etc.
