For sale is a rare, top Ibanez model manufactured in Japan in 1991 - Ibanez SR1500 BG. While the SR series is associated with light axes with comfortable necks, the 1500 is a different kind of weapon. Yes, the neck is even slimmer than in jazz basses, and the body is quite small, pleasantly rounded and ergonomic, but... It is a heavy bass - it weighs 5 kg.
This has obvious cons, but it also has advantages: the guitar has a powerful growl and a sustain longer than any bolt-on I have had. Bubinga is also very scratch-resistant. The body doesn't show three decades of playing at all. The neck, frets and headstock are also in very good condition.
The specification is quite impressive: American DiMarzio pickups (signed as IBZ/USA), Gotoh tuners, a huge brass bridge and ebony on the fingerboard. You can see that it was the highest model at that time. The build quality is typical of the Fujigen factory, simply great.
Personally, I also like the Powercurve preamp, which has only three knobs (for volume, balance and mid frequency) and one switch (passive/boost 1/boost 2). Although it may not seem like much, the adjustment is very effective - with a subtle correction we can dramatically influence the sound. The only thing we won't change is its character – it is definitely a rock/metal bass. The sound reminds me of Warwick Thumb, The Ibanez responds very dynamically to changes in articulation, and the set-up is low, about 1.5mm above the 12th fret.
Bass is located in Poznań, Poland, but can be sent anywhere within the EU (preferably with neck dettached).
