Collection reduction - for sale: Japanese Ibanez RB960 Deluxe in Polar White. Manufactured only in 1985, this was the top model of the entire RB line.
While at first glance the RB960 may appear delicate, it is anything but. Equipped with two active humbuckers (with passive tone/tone/vol/vol control), this bass is a powerhouse. The previous owner, who had it since new, even installed a Gotoh D-tuner to serve rocking (he loved this bass so much he even replaced the head of the new tuner with the original one). Despite its seemingly angular design, the Ibanez is very comfortable – the basswood body has a reasonable weight, a gentle contour under the body (setting it apart from other RB models), and the neck profile and width resemble those of a Fender Jazz Bass.
I would rate its condition as good with a plus. The most significant flaw is a larger chip in the finish near the jack, along with several scratches around the pickups and a few minor dings here and there. The nut was also replaced somewhat unattractively – I believe it's a bone-brass nut from an Ibanez Musician, providing a substantial upgrade, but leaving an unseemly mark. The rest of the finish looks very good for being almost 40 years old – the white has been taken on a slightly golden hue, and the beautiful binding around the body remains untouched and highly impressive. Pure class.
In terms of sound, the bass resembles a Jazz Bass on steroids, but the independent controls for each pickup offer a lot of flexibility. The dominant characteristic of its sound is an incredible bell-like clarity, somewhat reminiscent of Spectors in this regard. The connection between the neck and body is very deep, providing excellent sustain and making it resonate like crazy.
The bass can be tested in Poznań, Poland, and shipping is not a problem.
