I am selling a Japanese Fernandes JBR-45 in the very rare Candy Red color. The guitar is from the 1980s, probably 1987 - I couldn't find this color in any other catalog.
Anyone who has ever dealt with older MiJ Fernandes knows that they were among the best production instruments from Nippon. The Niizo-based company has never been afraid of design experimentation (that's still the case here - the slanted neck pickup gives a sound similar to that of a Precision), and the quality of the workmanship and wood allowed them to last for decades. Every Fernandes from this time impresses eg B. through the perfect filling of the frets or the precision of the cutouts for the pickups.
Despite being nearly forty years old at the neck, the JBR is in excellent condition - the Gotoh keys hold tune, the original frets will play for a long time, and there is no rust on the hardware. The bridge works as it should and despite the low string action we don't have any unnecessary fretbuzz. At the same time, the bass is very sensitive to articulation, and a change in hand position or pulling force is immediately reflected in the sound. The Fernandes is equipped with professional EMG JJ active pickups in Ivory (no longer available in Europe, worth c. 200 euros alone). The battery's been put next to the pots and the box was additionally insulated with copper foil so that the electronics are quiet.
The EMG pickups are known for their full, very versatile sound and match the alder wood .
The visual condition is rather age-appropriate - the body has a few dents and a large crack in the thick paint. There are a few paint chips around the neck - the bass appears to have had a pocket correction in its long life and the scars remain. All screws in the body joint are stiff, and the vibration is pleasantly transmitted throughout the body, like with any decent 'Japanese'.
The neck, headstock and fingerboard (very dark rosewood) are in excellent condition.
Interestingly - apart from the dynxes mentioned - the paint is in very good condition, and there aren't too many micro-scratches even on the back.
The bass weighs 4.4kg, is very well balanced and very comfortable - the neck profile is definitely in the style of a Fernder jazz bass, and even a bit slimmer (I still have a black JBR-45 and it has a slightly thicker neck) .
I am selling the bass with the SKB Professional Flightcase - apart from a crack in one of the "feet" it is in very good condition.
In the photos the bass appears very bright in daylight, in reality it is a bit darker, you can see it in the last photo.
Playing guitar in Poznan in western Poland, no problem with shipping at buyer's expense. I don't speak German, I use a translator, it will be easier to contact me in English.
