Selling this rare 1993 Fernandes FRB-100 (sometimes called APB-100 or APB-5) made in Japan. It was one of the top Fernandes models at the time which is visible in the great specs: Gotoh tuners and massive 3-d bridge, powerful FGI technology pickups, ash (Sen) body with maple/rosewood neck and my absolutely favorite detail: adjustable brass nut.
It's a very comfortable bass with slim, narrow neck (strings spacing is 16.5mm, although the saddles can be set up differently) and good access to all 24 frets. With rather compact body it weighs in at only 4.1kg yet it offers a very tight B string. While Fernandes at the time targeted mainly rock/metal musicians, it's no accident that this model was endorsed by the legendary Rocco Prestia of Tower of Power - specific placement of jazz pickups results in a Ken Smithy sound which is really perfect for more funky genres. But it cuts through other instruments like butter so you can do your Metallica stuff if you want to! There are some nice sound samples on Youtube that present the sound of this guitar in full.
The bass is 30-years old and has dings to show for it; there's also a lacquer rubbing at one place on the body. No structural damage though and neck still feels super smooth. Hardware works great and looks good. Frets are ok - there's slight wear under the G string so a quick fret job wouldn't hurt at some point in the future and there's still plenty of height to do it, but even now we can have really low action for slapping and quick playing .
It's an instant player - you grab it and just have fun. It's so smartly designed there's no need getting used to it.
I put the condition as "good" for the sake of transparency, but in fact when you touch the bass you feel it's excellently kept for its age, it doesn't feel tired at all.
And yes, if you're wondering - there's a neck-thru-body option for B and E strings. Why just for the 2? Well, no idea
