I will sell a collector's item - the Music Man SUB 5 USA. Produced in the same factory as the Stingray, the SUB was supposed to be its more affordable version. To reduce the price, Ernie Ball used poplar instead of ash, put in unbranded (although identical) hardware and opted for a cheaper, textured finish. However, the most important things in the Music Man, ie the pickup and preamp, remained exactly the same as in the good old Stingray: a ceramic humbucker and 2-band EQ. The SUB also shares with the classic Stingray the slob body and the shape of the pickguard - even, as you can see, in the five-string version.
The Made in USA quality also remained unchanged.
Good materials and careful workmanship turned out to be the final nail in the coffin for the SUBs. In 2006, Ernie Ball announced that after only four years, they would stop the production. The reason was simple: the cost of producing basses became so high that the company... lost money on each order.
The model for sale comes from 2004 and has only had two owners so far. It is in excellent condition - there are literally two tiny chips on the body (barely visible because they are painted over) and a thin scratch on the back of the body, mini scratches on the electronics board and typical rust marks on the pickup. The rest is perfect: neck, truss rod, frets, hardware. In terms of sound, we have a typical Stingray here (turn up the EQ to the max and you sound like RATM) with a very strong, responsive B string. Very low string action for a Music Man - 1.5 mm above the 12th fret.
Importantly - the varnish on the neck is intact, which is almost never the case with US SUBs (it tends to wear off).
It's not light at about 4.6 kg. I am selling it with 3 additional pickguards (including the original "metallic" one).
The bass is located in Poznan, Poland (!), but can be safely shipped anywhere within the EU.
Private sell due to collection reduction, therefore no warranty, return etc.
